Ventura, Calif. – The Ventura Fire Department invites community members to a special Fire Prevention Open House on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Station 6, located at 10797 Darling Road. The event is part of National Fire Prevention Week, happening October 5–11, highlighting the importance of education and preparation in keeping families safe.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” underscores the growing need to understand the risks and safe practices associated with everyday technology. With lithium-ion batteries powering everything from smartphones and electric bikes to laptops, power tools, and portable chargers, this year’s theme highlights how to use, store, and charge these batteries safely.
At the free, family-friendly open house, fire prevention and hazardous materials specialists will share demonstrations and hands-on activities designed to help families prevent fires at home and prepare for emergencies.
“This year’s theme puts a spotlight on an emerging safety concern in nearly every household,” said Fire Marshal Brett Reed. “Fire Prevention Week is about empowering our community with the knowledge and tools to keep their families safe, and we’re excited to combine important education about lithium-ion batteries with interactive activities that make fire safety approachable for all ages.”
Staff will guide participants through activities like “Stay Low and Go!” and Exit Drills in the Home (EDITH), encouraging families to plan their escape routes together. Guests can also practice using fire extinguishers, learn hands-only CPR basics, and learn how to create defensible space and home hardening materials to protect property against wildfire.
