Outreach Alliance of Ventura County’s Supplies 4 Success Program Prepares Local Students for a Confident Start to School
VENTURA, California (July 23, 2025) — As summer winds down, Outreach Alliance of Ventura County (OAVC) is hard at work equipping underserved students for a fresh, confident start to the new school year through its Supplies 4 Success (S4S) program.
Since 1993, Supplies 4 Success has provided essential school supplies, hygiene kits, age-appropriate books, and gift cards for clothing to students in need across Ventura County. This year, the program will serve nearly 60 schools in six school districts — and for the first time, will expand support to junior high and middle school students in two of those districts.
“Our members have made this program what it is today,” said Michelle Beltran, S4S program chair. “Every year, our volunteers bring energy, heart, and dedication to help thousands of local children start school ready to learn.”
From May through November, more than 40 OAVC volunteers dedicate their time to sourcing, sorting, and packing thousands of backpacks filled with school supplies, hygiene products, and clothing gift cards. The backpacks are labeled for each student and delivered directly to schools, where counselors ensure families receive the items at the beginning of the school year.
In addition to its core distributions, S4S volunteers coordinate clothing drops and special giveaways throughout the year, supporting students beyond the back-to-school season.
“The workdays are filled with camaraderie, purpose, and the joy of giving back,” said Marcia Semple, S4S business chair. “There’s a role for everyone who wants to help — from tagging and packing to staging our workrooms.”
Since its inception, Supplies 4 Success has served nearly 40,000 local children, with a goal to grow that impact by at least 10% annually. The program’s success is built entirely on volunteer power and community support — and every dollar raised stays right here in Ventura County.
