Community Memorial Healthcare has taken a major step forward in surgical innovation with the addition of the da Vinci 5 robotic system (dV5), the most advanced surgical robot available. Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura is the first hospital in Ventura County to acquire this cutting-edge technology.
“We are proud to expand our da Vinci robotic fleet to 3 robots with the addition of the DV5,” said Community Memorial’s Director of Surgical Services, Christine Netzley-Morales. “Our patients benefit from the latest minimally invasive surgical technology through faster healing, shorter hospitalizations, and decreased risk for infection after surgery.”
The dV5 allows for unprecedented precision and control. Its enhanced sensors and new force feedback mechanism allow surgeons to feel the subtle push-and-pull of the instruments during an operation, adding a crucial layer of tactile information. Community Memorial surgeon Patrick McCarty, MD, recently performed the first case using this innovative system.
The dV5 will be utilized by Community Memorial physicians across a diverse range of specialties, including colorectal, urology, bariatric, thoracic, gynecological, and general surgeries.
“For over 20 years, the robotic surgery program at Community Memorial Hospital - Ventura has been committed to advancing patient care through innovation and precision,” said Dr. McCarty. “The addition of the Intuitive da Vinci 5 marks the next evolution in that mission—enhancing surgical accuracy, improving recovery times, and ensuring our patients continue to benefit from the safest, most advanced technology available.”
Benefits of Advanced Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery has significant benefits for both surgeons and, most importantly, our patients. For patients, the benefits include:
· Less blood loss and reduced post-operative pain
· Lower risk of infection
· Shorter hospital stays, allowing for a quicker return to normal activities
· Minimal scarring due to small incision sites
A Robust and Diverse Robotics Program
Thanks to the strong collaboration between Community Memorial leadership and surgeons, Community Memorial’s Robotics Program has become more robust and comprehensive. In addition to the new dV5, the health system’s experts utilize a diverse array of advanced robotic surgical platforms including the Intuitive da Vinci, ROSA® Total Knee & Hip System, and Globus ExcelsiusGPS™.
