After Nearly 50 Years, Beloved Downtown Ventura Furniture Store to Close Its Doors

For Your Home furniture, a cherished part of the Ventura community since 1976, announces its final chapter.

A journey that began with waterbeds in the 1970s is coming to a bittersweet end as For Your Home furniture prepares to close its doors after 48 years of business. Since its founding, through inflations, recessions, COVID and bucking sales trends, the store has grown into a staple of Ventura’s retail landscape, known throughout the Central Coast for its unique, high-quality furniture and personal touch.

Brian Seelos first opened the store in 1976 under the name Dreamweaver Waterbeds after relocating to Ventura from Glendale. Drawn to the coastal charm of Ventura, Brian partnered with his younger brother Kevin and transformed a historic Main Street building with skylights and rustic features into a thriving showroom.

In 2010, founder Brian Seelos stepped aside to travel handing over the reins to Kevin, who, over the decades, took the store and evolved into For Your Home furniture, offering timeless, unique furniture, home accessories, and expert design advice. His brother Brian had an untimely passing in 2017.

“We’ve loved being a part of this community and helping generations of families create homes filled with style and comfort,” said Kevin Seelos. “It’s been an incredible journey, and we’re so grateful to everyone who has supported us over the years. Now, it’s time for me to retire.”

For Your Home has built a loyal customer base and cultivated decades-long relationships with top furniture manufacturers. Known for its wide selection of American-made products and carefully curated collections, the store has earned a reputation as Ventura’s “gigantique boutique” – a term coined by a customer to describe its unique blend of boutique charm and expansive inventory.

Starting late summer, the store launched its’ “Retiring Sale”, a farewell sale, offering significant discounts on its remaining inventory. This event is not just an opportunity to find beautiful furniture but also a chance for customers to visit and share their memories of the store.

Kevin’s retirement doesn’t mean he’s off fishing. He will continue as president of the Downtown Ventura Lion’s Club and participate in community outreach.
